Five Point Action Plan

By Andrew Kappel
My five point action plan for this year at John Carroll is as follows. First, I will listen intently on everything that the teacher says and then write it down in a notebook or tablet. That way when I go back to read over my notes to study, I can see what happened in class. I will do this in addition to reading my text books so I completely review all material available.  Second, I will set a goal to participate at least three times per day in every class. That way I can get a better understanding of my class. Also, I can learn at a faster rate if I participate because it will show that I can understand the subject matter. Third, I will write down my homework in my planner everyday so that way I won't forget anything and then lose points easily. Fourth, I will keep my papers organized into a neat binder. I will not use a folder this year so that I know where all my papers are to be. That way I can flip to a class pull out a homework, classwork, or study paper. Finally, the last thing that I will do to help my freshman year is to not get frustrated over any classwork or homework assignments. I have an email account so I can contact teachers and ask questions. So now I will learn to solve the problem instead of writing the wrong answer and just be done with it. My five points this year will not be easy to accomplish but I know if I focus and put forth the effort I can achieve these goals easily.

Day #1 Human Geo-Important Introductions

Today was the first official day of my class for Human Geography. My teacher Mr. Schick came back for his first day as well. He was off at a college trip with his daughter. He was a very funny teacher and made a lot of jokes. I think that I'm going to like his class a lot. Also, we went over our blog instructions and only a couple of people had actually gotten it right the first time. I was not one of those people so I had to go back and fix mine. like so many other people I sent him the wrong URL. Figures that on my first real day of school that I would find a way to mess up. But then again that's what freshmen are for. We also learned in Mr. Schick's class that we need to buy a composition notebook. But I read that on his blog on Monday and I went out and bought one yesterday. So hopefully that clears out the URL mistake. Also we went over some things of what we are going to do this year in Human Geography. I know that I am going to enjoy this class and just have fun with it. But it all starts with the first day of Human Geography.

My First Day At John Carroll

First Day of John Carroll
By: Andrew Kappel

I could not wait for my first day at John Carroll to arrive which I have to say is the first time I have ever said that about school! The day had many fun moments and its share of ones that were not. When I arrived at 7:30 A. M., I was a little tired after a long summer filled with a lot of soccer activities. I saw my friends from the soccer team so I talked to them until 7:50 and then I went to my locker on the third floor. But the best part was teasing my friend Seth for being the only guy on campus wearing a tie on the first day.  The rest of us choose to wear polo shirts, but his mom made him wear a tie for picture day. All day long we were making fun of him and laughing but we were just messing around and he knew that. For the first two hours of school, we moved around a lot to various rooms where different people talked to us about a variety of school topics. Our next stop was the auditorium, where a man talked to us and he was very funny so we knew we were in for a treat. After that, we went to our A day classes but on a shortened schedule. I met my teachers and classmates for the A day. I liked all my teachers so far and I think I am going to like this school a lot.  My peers are very kind-hearted and funny people and I look forward to being in their classes for the next four years. There were two things that I didn't like out of today; the very short lunch time which was only 15 minutes to eat due to the shortened schedule. The second thing was that it the day seemed to move very slowly and it felt like forever until the final bell rang. Overall, it was a good day, as I enjoyed being in my classes and I look forward to coming back on Wednesday.
